The flight from Dulles to London had the seats but not the VOD. It makes a huge difference. Eric had also never before used an eye-shade, but now very much enjoys them. Eric also finally figured out that you can’t sleep with Bose noise cancelling (they whistle when you turn sideways in fetal position); he used the BA provided ear plugs and they worked like a charm (even when sleeping on his side).
Eric’s Entertainment Choices:
The last half of The Expendables (first half watched IAD-LHR): A-W-F-U-L . Half a Star, just cause the Governator makes a cameo.
The Town: Eric felt dirty admitting it but he enjoyed it…a lot. Ben Affleck can’t act, but he plays himself convincingly, the plot was strong and Jeremy Renner is a talent. Four Stars.
The American: George Clooney is believable and the plot is simple but compelling. The acting is good, the pace is not rushed and it takes place in the hills of Abruzzi. Definitely worth a Netflix. Three Stars.
5 Hours of Sleep: One Million Stars. 5 good hours of sleep on a plane is key!
Karen’s Entertainment Choices:
Karen slept much less (read almost not at all) and so her movie and television list is a big longer.
Friends: the one with the museum benefit; one of my all-time favorite episodes and inclusive of (say it with me, Stephanie) “What gets out hummus?”
How I Met Your Mother: the one where Barney and Marshall are texting Ted pretending to be Holli, the new girl he likes.
The Town: see above though it should be noted that I always thought it was going to be good and had been looking forward to seeing it.
Never Let Me Go: not as good as the book in that you never feel connected to the children, their solitude and the despair associated with the life they are doomed to live, and yet still a terribly depressing movie. Carey Mulligan is lovely though.
Ratatouille: had seen this before and this was the period during which I drifted off. Great movie though.
The Good Wife: had never seen this show before and deem it pretty good. I believe it is on opposite something else we watch at home though, so will have to catch up via On Demand or something. It was an episode involving a “lawyer” who never passed the bar defending an Orthodox Jewish couple in a case where a woman tripped on a wire that fell in front of their home on the Sabbath.
The Other Guys: only got through about an hour of this before they shut the system down for landing, and thank god. Terrible movie. Eva Mendes, you should only work with Will Smith.

Definately saw Ratatouille on the plane from Buenos Aires to Panama. It might have been the hangover, or the half of a percocet I saved from my tonsil surgery but that little mouse tugged on my heart strings. It's still a joke between Joy and I: "remember the time you were crying at Ratatouille?"
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with your assessment of Never Let Me Go, Karen - not as good as the book but still super-depressing! Lovely cinematography, though.
